Sports Reporting

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

On Tuesday night, Kathy Orton from the Washington Post came to talk to us. What a treat that was! She is a reporter in the sports department and follows college basketball.

Being a girl who wants to be in sports this was a delight. Kathy really opened my eyes to the sports world and the realization that you will not go right into the workforce as the best reporter, but that you might have to start as the errand girl.

Kathy was by far the more excitintg speaker for me to listen to.

Newseum

The Pulitzer Prize pictures collection at the Newseum is a collection to take ones breath away. At the Newseum, located in downtown Washington D.C, there is not only the exhibit of the Pulitzer Prize picture collection, there is the Berlin Wall, and part of the tower that fell, and there is part of the Pentagon.  These exhibits were very emotional and moving. The museum takes quite awhile to go through but in the end it is worth it.

The Newseum was a wonderful experience for me because it covered so many aspects of the media. There was an old printing press to the idea of newspaper on the internet. All of this is at your fingertips. The best part of the museum in my eyes would have been the exhibit entitled Journalist Memorial.

First Day

June 12, 2009. Today, I left my house really early. I had to fly to DC. I was awake at like 3:30 so I could make sure that I arrived atmy plane on time. The Boise United Airlines check-in was a mess. I finally arrived at my plan though, I was only like 10 minutes early though! The flight was okay. I landed in Chicago O’Hare and found that my next flight was delayed over 20 minutes. I, then lost my boarding pass and had to reprint one. Finally, I was able to board the plane. The flight was long and very bumpy. I made it to DC though. I’m here and ready to start this week!
